That's right, we're a handsome lot of hard-workers bringing good food to kitchens far and wide. steven and rachel bosshead foodsters
Within the last 25 years, their most memorable meals have been not just the ones shared in premier restaurants but those partaken within their own home and the homes of friends and family around the U.S. and Europe. And through these meals, they have continued to find a common impulse to promote the wellbeing of all those connected with great food, from everyone growing, producing, cooking, to eating. The Boss' lifelong mission is to share their love and passion for great food and food traditions. They hope through their sharing people will understand why it is so important to spend time in the kitchen preparing fresh food with the best ingredients possible: That more and more people will develop a greater understanding and appreciation for all the dedicated people around the world who are constantly working to uphold food traditions, sustainability, and the bio-diversity of our planet. Steven and Rachel live in Iowa and have been handing down the legacy of good cooking to their children, professed "foodies" Jacob and Rebecca. Jacob attends the University of Iowa and will graduate in 2008 with degrees in Japanese and Anthropology. Rebecca is a junior at Iowa State University and plans to attend the College of Veterinary Medicine at ISU. p.s. If Rachel had been born with a supernatural power that caramelizes foods with the gaze of her eyes, she'd enjoy staring down fruits most, especially peaches. And Steven's favorite food noise is the air-popping of corn. kathy duboisassistant to the head foodsters
Although Kathy calls herself a “home chef”, she has worked professionally as a private chef, starting her career on Wall Street in Manhattan. Living and eating in NYC and planning menus on a daily basis, surrounded by all the amazing ingredients the city had to offer, was a defining food experience. Then in 1998, during a week-long cooking course in Umbria, Kathy met Steven and Rachel. Their combined love of food made them instant friends. They toured Italy together in pursuit of the finest, organic products. Coming from an Italian tradition herself, Kathy was deeply impressed by the traditions of care and pride with which these generations of family farmers tended their land and created their foods. To hear their stories and taste their foods was for her the first experience of fully appreciating the "taste of earth". And to experience this with Steven and Rachel made it all the more meaningful because of their love for people and food and fun. After Italy, Kathy's cooking was reshaped. She saw how simple, quality foods can be really good and even better. "And with some really special ingredients from the special people who produce them, the possibilities are endless." p.s. If Kathy could share a glass of wine with any animal (assuming she could speak the animal's language), she would sip a Cabernet Sauvignon with a mama koala bear and her baby. Since they can remember, Steven and Rachel Boss have been surrounded by good cooks. Grandparents, parents, restaurant chefs, farmers, and friends have all helped shape their love of food. Steven and Rachel express their profound thanks to each and every one of these extraordinary people.
Kathy avows a lifelong love of food. From her earliest memories, food's there. In fact, it is her earliest memory. This love has lead to an enduring passion to learn about food, read and talk about it, cook and experiment with it, and (of course) eat it. Through food, Kathy creates more memories, using it to bring friends and family together. "Delicious, well-prepared food makes everyone happy," she says, "and nothing is more enjoyable in my life than serving my friends and family something I’ve prepared especially with them in mind."
